You know there is an alternative explination for the Scorpion tatt. There doesn't have to be a "Drugs/Mafia" explanation. A common expression worldwide is "A sting in the tail"

It's probably a bit too metaphorical for those TGs with scorpion tattoos but another explanation could be the Aesop tale about the Frog and the Scorpion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Scorpion_and_the_Frog).
There's a certain appeal into a TG getting a tattoo of a creature who is true to it's nature despite the consequences.
Personally I like tattoos on both women & TGs providing its:
a) well done
b) not generic flash they picked of the wall of the tattooist.
