Hilarious despatch from Moscow 1943
If you know someone who likes light-hearted reading, a recent book by Matthew Parris and Andrew Bryson -The Spanish Ambassador's Suitcase- offers despatches from British Embassies around the world, most of them entertaining, sometimes gripping, like the eye-witness account of a Japanese official committing Hara-Kiri in 1868. A notorious despatch from Moscow in the Spring of 1943 is reproduced below. Suitable as a Christmas present.
