Not sure who you could be referring, but passable sometimes isn't about the hottest, since there are a lot of GG's in the world that most people wouldn't consider to be attractive. I think one of the biggest aspects of passing (even more important than looks) is voice. No matter how hot you are, if you have a manly voice, you are going to get some odd looks.

Passability is an interesting thing, as it's not necessarily related to attractiveness. The most common theory of it is that you pass when the majority of your gender queues are feminine; when you have an even mix of queues or when you are majority masculine, you don't pass. I'm not sure this is totally accurate however as sometimes all it takes is one slip up with one queue and suddenly you've been clocked, even though the majority of your queues are clearly very feminine.

I'm increasingly convinced that the biggest "give away" as it were is voice. I pass consistently except in extended interactions, and what is the thing that people get a closer "look" at in extended interaction? Voice. It seems as if particularly in the TS porn scene -- the very small handful of professionally employed transwomen I know do NOT have this problem -- most girls are content with the drag queen voice.
