Hmmm ... would you not accept an award for directing the best scene?
Would you not accept an award for best non-typical performer or fetish scene?

It seems like you're basing you're assumptions on some sort of beauty pageant. Without any disrespect intended, there are many non-stereotypical "beauties" who have won awards in this niche.

Whilst technically correct, I could argue with that. You went up against a string of other people who have done a bucketload of work to shape the face of trans porn over an extended period. I'm sure Seanchai had several truly worthy candidates in mind. They didn't get it. You did.

Is anyone actually reading what I wrote or only what what they want to hear? I specifically said "awards like these" as to differentiate between awards based solely on popularity verses awards that pertain to actual accomplishment.

I'd accept an award for some sort of technical accomplishment, sure why not? It only makes sense. The accomplishment is quantifiable. You can add up man hours, resources or lack thereof, and the amount of critical reviews that point to your work rather than the performers onscreen. With those type of metrics you can take two different productions and weigh them against each other. There's something there to award.

The 'non typical' thing I'm on the fence about. The mere fact that there is a an alternative category at all makes it sound like an "also ran" award.
Seriously, an alternative to what? Good looks? Popularity? High tweet counts? If it's any of those things, that's a hell of a dark thing left unspoken.

Even so, it's an award based on someone's looks, kinda like, The Best Of The Bottom Of The Barrel. The only real difference I can see is that the models in that category, (of which I've been a repeat nominee) seem to be that those particular girls do put a little more effort into their game, almost out of necessity, so it's almost a valid award according to the previous arguments I've made.

There is no real award category I can dream up that would award merit in a way that'd be fair across the board. There are the girls that bank directly because of the way that they look. There are those who just work really hard and earn their keep in a kid of grass roots fashion. An award for the good lookers is basically little more than an ego stroke and an award for merit may not be very fair because we don't all have access to the same resources in order to accomplish the things we know we're capable of doing at any given time.
As near as I can figure, porn awards are more of an excuse to throw a party than anything else. I'll never miss an award show for that very reason... it's always a good time if you mind your P's & Q's - but the awards themselves? Seems a little surface level to me. I'm just not that type of human.

Jamie honestly a lot of your reasoning (as most of times) is spot on especially with the "non typical" award, I just have mixed feelings as you do.

Now with that being said I have won almost every award from an event there is Avn, Xbiz, Tranny Awards, Urban X, BBWFanfest and I by no means have ever been put in the "pretty" category LOL. I can say FOR ME the awards were more than an excuse to party because I have only attended one that I won.

I will say that the awards have been nice for many reasons, winning AVN helped me get my Toy line, the awards Ive been able to use as leverage for gigs or Interviews, but most importantly since I never fit that "pretty" group it was a nice pat on my back for the hard work.

You are extremely talented and I think if you opened up to those type of things it would change your overall perspective of what they can do for you business wise or personally.

Finally now as Im approaching 40 and I think Ive done a lot in my 10 plus years for the face of our genre as a spokesperson it would be nice to get in the Hall of Fame or be recognized for my achievements. Its just a bonus and that's what you have to think about it.

And yes it does help the ego just a bit LOL

My two cents on the matter: there's more to awards than just party or ego-boost.

I love making porn. But by the same token I need my porn to be profitable for me to keep making it. Last year's award season did a lot to boost both my visibility and sales; its certainly increased the resources available to me, in terms of finances, equipment and contacts. Best of all, it got my fans energized.

If you create good porn, they will come regardless, but awards like this can certainly speed up the process.

I'm not speaking to how awards can be used to further one's career. I'd be a liar/fool if I told you I didn't consider these kinds of awards from a Machiavellian stance.

What I'm on about is a little more philosophical in nature. Where I'm coming from speaks to who I am as a person rather than a business. These two things are often at odds and I take my lumps because of it but I always sleep well at night.

lol @ jamie. clearly sour grapes. the sum of your argument is that, essentially, you were not born pretty. tough shit. do what you do best and don't worry about being an "it" girl or "traditional award" winner.

To be nominated is an award in itself.
