Re: Beyonce says NO to the term Shemales
I don't like it, but I think it's something our culture has developed. I know it won't be going away soon (especially in the porn industry). I'm pretty sure most people who use it outside of the porn industry are just uneducated on the topic. Transgender terms aren't pushed enough and don't get enough air time on the television.
Sure you can look up a bunch of stuff on the internet, but if you're just an average cis person who isn't curious at all about it, there's a good chance you don't know anything of how to address a transgender person. If anything they might only know the term shemale from random ads/categories on porn sites.

Look up Paris Lees sometime if you are trying to help an uneducated person understand the basics about transgender. She is a talented writer and damn cute transwoman.

Re: Beyonce says NO to the term Shemales
I just meant the average cis population in general. They need to push some kind of programming or something if they want to get through the majority of people. Hell, make a kids episode of something of how we're all equal no matter what gender and explain it. That would probably get the radical Christian's wilded up, despite their lessons of treating everyone equal.
The problem is you have to search or read. I'm saying you shouldn't have to. There should be something on the television all the time out of all the channels, but there's barely nothing. They try to cover it up and hide it. -_-'

Re: Beyonce says NO to the term Shemales
I hear what you're saying. Things like after-school specials and pop cultural storylines really make a huge difference (probably second after knowing someone IRL who is a member of a misunderstood minority). It is a bit like the black female Star Trek character (not a fan of the old show, not sure of the character's name) who inspired young girls who would go on to become real life astronauts years later or people becoming more accepting of interracial relationships because the character's relationship with Kirk. I have talked with some people who said they lost their transphobia after seeing the movie Soldier's Girl which was based on a true story.

Re: Beyonce says NO to the term Shemales
So few people actually know a trans person in everyday life that we could use more positive cultural PR for sure.

I wish I could eat more of the food!
But yeah, I'm a native who stays for the cheap rent, and I'm sad to say I have to leave before I catch a case or a stalker.
