Greetings all,

I come to you, the Hung Angels braintrust, for help. Now that I am starting to cross-dress again, I need new clothes. However, I don't even know where to begin with finding something to wear that I not only like, but also looks good on me.

The only way I can describe the general style I would like to adopt would be : Vampy Raver Sex Goddess. One part Goth/Emo, one part Candy Raver and one part Seductress. Fun, playful and alternative, but still sexy. Maybe a cross between Sarina Valentina in her early days before the boob job, Tara Emory and Harley Quinn?

So...I am looking for suggestions not just on particular dresses or outfits you think might fit the description, but also places to shop where those styles might be found. Once I find something, I will do my best to take pictures of me in the outfit and share them with you.

It's really tough to co-opt a style. A good wardrobe takes time.

I honestly feel like this is a "if you have to ask, you'll never know" situation, y'know?

My real advice is to immerse yourself in the culture you seek to emulate, and brush up on clothing terms. That way you can Google " tiny shiny pleated skirt" and find a whole bunch of them, at sites to buy them from.

Sounds like a case for Spenser's or Hot Topic. I think the look you are seeking is pretty difficult to pull of without looking like a "poser". As has already been mentioned, immerse yourself in the culture and you'll figure out the dress pretty quickly.

When I have time to immerse myself in culture, which is rare due to my work schedule and raising a 3yo, that culture is D&D style tabletop gaming or the medieval enthusiast society known as the SCA. I was a hard core raver back in the 90's, but it's been a long time since I put my face in the speakers and twirled around with glow sticks.

Since I am starting from scratch, having thrown out all my outfits when I got married, I figure it's easiest to pick a general look that I like, see if there are any stores or online places where I can find something similar, and then adjust the look as I try things on and see what does and doesn't look good on me.

I'm going to post some pictures of things I think might fit what I am aiming for, and everyone else is welcome to add stuff if they feel like helping out.

Didn't Terry Pratchet come up with an 8th color? The color of magick, as I recall. Surely THAT is darker than black?
