I didn't coin it, but it is very useful. I think the first thing to ask, when someone offers a definition of a behaviour, is "Does this term help me or the person exhibiting the behaviour to understand it better, or is it simply a way for the person using the term to distance him or herself (and therefore to 'other' the person they're talking about)? The former can be useful, the latter almost never.

Also, all the worthwhile studies of sexuality that I have looked at (which is a lot but by no means all) depend on self-identification. If Kinsey did not establish this as the proper working method, he certainly generalised it. The only person who can actually decide what a person's sexuality, gender identification or orientation is, is that person. Of course, this presumes that they are being honest.

OK, I only like girls but that includes Tgirls.
