Alan Chambers, in a statement posted Thursday on Exodus International's website, said the group wants to apologize to the gay community "for years of undue suffering and judgment at the hands of the organization and the church as a whole."

An article that I realize could just as easily go in the politics and religion forum, but it has a sort of general relevance for the lgbt community. Who would know better than a church that specializes in gay conversions that sexuality is something very rarely changed throughout the course of one's life? One's tastes may change, but rarely across genders, and rarely if ever through force.

Hopefully more churches and organizations will come forward after realizing that their low "conversion" rates are more a sign of the futility and cruelty of their mission than any fault of their clients. This apology is both welcome and deserved given the continued psychological torment inflicted on individuals by similar groups.

I always wondered why if they're going to take a hands-on approach to this, why they don't employ a few women (or men for the lesbians) to try to make the conversion more successful. I don't think it would work, but the bisexuals would be in fucking heaven.
