    Default NFL in London?

I know this belongs in the Sports Section, but I want more folks to see it first. I also want the opinions of my friends in the London area on this.

This isn't new news. I think this may cause traveling conflicts. The NFL isn't popular in England and other parts in the world. The NBA SHOULD be doing this. Basketball is the most universally popular sport around the world. The NBA is America's most watched league worldwide.

If the NFL comes to London it will be huge. The random games we've had the public tickets go in seconds. I would contemplate a season ticket, or share one at least.

Plus wembley needs to claw back some of the £900million building costs.

Fans all over the country would go to the games, remember in Britain footy fans are used to travelling to wembley for games, its only 6 hours to drive from the northerly reaches. In fact the country would embrace the franchise IMO and create new fans of the NFL

But you gotta change the name... It ain't fecking football is it? There's little footing of the ball... It's gridiron, that's a good name.

    Stupid septics

Ok, 2 things.... Didn't London have a team when they did that World League of American Football thing? I know it was a lesser league, but I don't remember a lot of interest in it. One game a year where all the expats buy tickets, I get that. But is there really any kind of demand for it over there?

Other thing. Totally agree, they need a better name. OF course they'll have to change the name "NFL" also, as it will have transcended "National"

That world league thing was embarrassing shit with the London Monarchs. Cannot be compared to having an NFL franchise in the city.

I think you'll find that's what you ol' boys call soccer.

And basketball is popular here where it's popular, but that's not in many places. The same is true for ice hockey - we differentiate because field hockey is more popular, it's a major sport in schools. And nobody plays baseball. Why would you, when we have cricket?

In this country, the rest of Europe, South America and Africa, round ball football rules.

And gridiron is probably ok on TV. But with all the starts/stops, timeouts ect it's by far the most frustrating major spectator sport of the lot for me. Just get on with the fucking game!! And it stops every single time someone gains ground while they have a little celebration. FFS. And just what's the point of a musical extravaganza in the middle of it all?

I love rugby, which I used to play to a respectably high level. The game is played over two halves of 40 minutes each, with a ten minute break at half time, but only once have I known a game last more than 90 minutes in total.

Stoppages are accounted for by the referee and are almost always caused by an injury to a player - they don't wear body armour, just shirts and shorts. Otherwise the game ebbs and flows all the time.

NFL is a great spectacle but a lousy sport. Discuss.

But pleasures are like poppies spread
You seize the flow'r, the bloom is shed
