Agreed, I'd love more River Song. There have been many great companions (Sarah Jane, Ace, Rose, Amy, the list goes on), but only a very few who were more than companions: the Brigadier and River Song virtually have this category to themselves (maybe Romana, depending on your point of view).

Re: A new Doctor is coming
If the casting trends in the BBC in recent years suggest anything, it will be for a Dr who is over 20 but not much over 40 -Merlin, Sherlock Holmes, and the present Dr don't have wrinkles. Or, they may go the diversity and inclusion route: either Black, or Gay, or Female (Olivia Coleman is a favourite in this category).
Or you could work out who has contracts that bind them to certain jobs over the next 2 years and eliminate them. Difficult profession, acting. Uncertain prospects, irregular hours...

Russell Brand can go kill himself.

John Cleese maybe?
Eric Idle would be great!

Re: A new Doctor is coming
Good suggestions EvaCassini .
I don't know much about what actors out there might be available ,but I really
enjoyed Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in the BBC "Sherlock" series and think either one could bring what it takes to the role of Dr. Who.
