Re: Horse Racing - Corruption - The Sheikh
Greyhound racing is something that I am quite pleased has eased off over the years....
The sport is extremely hard on the dogs and in many cases quite cruel. My uncle breads greyhounds in Ireland.
Their food is cut back dramatically prior to a race to increase their hunger for chasing the prize.
Their training regimes are very intense to keep their weight down.
Maybe I am speaking a little naively due to the fact that I am such a great dog lover. I believe that a socialised dog is a very happy dog and as race dogs spend their lives inside a cage they just make me feel very sorry for them.
Re Shergar, the question was actually a joke however now touching on what actually happened to him, nobody truly knows as his body was never recovered, some say it was an issuance job, others say a ransom that went wrong... myself I struggle to fathom the insurance claim notion as surely his worth as a stud would have exceeded his worth on a payout or am I wrong?
And then why steal and try and ransom off a defunct race horse?
OR just maybe he was stolen due to the worth of his foals! I wonder do they record race horse DNA? What are the chances of a Shergar off spring does anyone know?! Maybe I was do involved in the X-Files during my youth!!

Mohammed Bin Rashid Criminalizes Use Of Anabolic Steroids For Horse Sports In UAE
May 24, 2013
By Eurasia Review
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai ordered Thursday the drafting of a decree making it a criminal offense the import, sale, purchase and use of anabolic steroids in all horse related sports in the UAE, reports the Emirates News Agency, WAM.
According to WAM, the decree is to have immediate effect.
“I have always believed in the integrity of horse racing and all other horse sports” said His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, according to WAM. “I have, in light of the unfortunate recent event, directed that a decree be issued making, with immediate effect, the import, sale, purchase or use of anabolic steroids in horse sports a criminal offence under the UAE penal laws”.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed was quoted by WAM as saying, “Regrettably, one of my stables in Europe has recently fallen below the standards that I expect and will tolerate. As soon as the internal investigations are complete and the requisite preemptory rules are put in place, Godolphin will go from strength to strength and lead, once again, adherence to the highest standards in that gracious sport.”

Re: Horse Racing - Corruption - The Sheikh
I wish to put on record my deep, deep appreciation of the contribution that his Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum has made to the Sport of Kings; I am utterly, utterly convinced that with his wise leadership, from this day forth, the iniquities that have bedevilled modern racing will be confronted, they will be dealt with, and they will disappear. I am convinced that from this day forth, Stud Farms will continue to breed classic winners; that trainers will continue to wear tweed jackets and trilbys except when required to wear morning suits, as at Royal Ascot, and Epsom on Derby Day; that Claire Balding will continue to tower over Willie Carson; that Jockeys will not snort cocaine; that stable lads will not feed Dobbin a Mars bar to give him such lift in the 4.15 at Wincanton on a November afternoon that he wins by a length; I am convinced that Lester Piggot will be rehabilitated, that Sammi Valentine will be declared best dressed on Ladies Day at Aintree, that the remains of Shergar will be found and interred in Westminster Abbey, and that Sheikh al-Maktoum, recognising my devotion to his tireless campaign for probity in sport, will reward me with the small, barely noticeable sum of £1 Million.
