Default Music your parents gave you....

The BBC runs a regular Saturday morning slot called "Inheritance tracks" in which a personality talks about the music their parents gave them which influenced them - and the music they would choose to pass on to their own kids.

Today was the guitarist Steve Hackett once with Genesis with surprising choices.
This is the music he recalls from childhood.

add this the tack he would pass on

I thought it might be interesting if members here told us about the music they learned from their parents - and the music they'd pass on.

In my case my father played music by Sousa, Tchaikovsky and Bert Kaempfert. I despite the latter never really listen to the first but still love the lush romanticism of Tchaikovsky.

The one track i would pass on is by Bob Dylan.

Parents gave me Motown; I'd pass to my offspring Neo-Soul...

My father didn't really understand symphonic music, but he sure wanted me to listened to some. I'm not too hot on classical, I find romantic music a bit heavy in general, but I love modern stuff and XVIth century a-capella chorals. From what I got myself, I have transmitted a love for jazz to my daughter, of poet-singers in our mother-tongue -who are great- and maybe of some ambient, soft music, gothic, etc.I also admit that what little I like of western music, I owe my old man. The rest was purely personnal discovery...

I inherited a lot of Beatles and Doors during roadtrips with my Dad. What really got me into music was listening to his old Jimi Hendrix records. Fucking awesome stuff.
