Singer Michelle Shocked anti-gay rant

Folk singer Michelle Shocked took the opportunity at a gig in San Francisco to make an attack on those who support the overturning of Proposition 8 which will re-establish the right of gay people to marry in California. Given her well-known anti-establishment and strongly left-wing credentials, this is quite a turnaround.

The comments are definitely entertaining. I swear, fundamentalists are like homophobic cockroaches on the internet. It's like you don't generally see them as much while doing your usual thing on the internet... but if the right news article, video, etc. comes up... they swarm in out of nowhere in the comments section!

Nah, a quick search shows that she has held that belief for more than 5 years now. I think some of her fans haven't been paying attention to what she has been saying all these years.

It's true that already in 2008 she said, “There are some inconvenient truths that I’m now a born again, sanctified, saved-in-the-blood Christian. So much of what’s said and done in the name of that Christianity is appalling. According to my Bible, which I didn’t write, homosexuality is immoral. But homosexuality is no more or less a sin than fornication. And I’m a fornicator with a capital F."

But her statement on March 17th of this year seems to make much more of a moral distinction between homosexuality and fornication. Her current claim is, "When they stop Prop 8 and force priests at gunpoint to marry gays, it will be the downfall of civilisation, and Jesus will come back."

Actually I agree that if "they...force priests at gunpoint to marry gays..." it will a break in the wall between religion and state. Though there are two points I would make in rebuttal. First of all I don't think gays want to marry priests . Second, she radically overstates the liberal position (which is decidedly anti-gunpoint) on gay marriage.
