Default Houston HS Student Not Allowed to attend Sr. Prom

PLEASE SIGN & SHARE THIS PETITION:

Spring High School Senior Prom Discrimination, Houston, TX: Allow a Spring High School Sr. the rights to attend senior prom as a woman

"According to the school officials, "Only ladies are to wear dresses to prom.." while a Spring H.S. student feels as if he's a woman - a transsexual. However, he has been denied to opportunity to attend the senior prom as a woman, where he feels most comfortable. After being told this was not accepted, and featured on the local news, I feel as if if bullying has become such an issues in today's society, why are we allowing school officials the rights to bully and discriminate upon one simply because they are "different" - Please sign the petition & allow this student to attend her senior prom as she wishes... We as a GLBT community MUST stop bullying - & it begins here."

    Lexi,

I'm having trouble tracking down any source on this besides you. Is there documentation of the situation? News coverage? etc?

I wish people would just get over themselves. ASSistant Super should have kept mouth shut about it and let the kid do whatever she/he wanted, especially if the parents supported her/him.

Here in Cincy, one of the high schools cancelled their prom because a bunch of kids had a water balloon fight in the cafeteria. There were about 10 people arrested because of the water balloon fight got out of hand, and some kids got hurt. This is also the same public school system that has been holding a kid's high school diploma from last May because his parents celebrated his graduation a bit louder than the other parents.

I think if the kid in Houston wants to wear a dress and go as a girl it should be that person's choice. It seems to me this falls under the right of free expression and the school should not be suppressing it.

I want to make you gasp and sigh!

No, but "she" feels like a woman & more comfortable in her own skin.. We all start somewhere.

The peition has targeted international supporters & when I spoke with the news station earlier today, they were shocked to see the outpour of support in less than 24 hours.

    It's discrimination.. and bullying.
