Regular porn was already forbidden, now they want to eliminate any internet porn from their territory. To eradicate the country from "violent" porn, they just throw the whole thing away! Porn is also forbidden in Sweeden. The only access they have to porn is the net. If Iceland makes it, look for more countries to eventually follow. To me, that's quite terrible, and completely hypocritical. Sweeden invokes the degradation of women, Iceland the violence; in fact, it's a new recipe of the good old moralistic puritanism and constipation, whether it comes from the political right or from the left. We thought we were freed from it, well... I guess we weren't.

I think you can visit. I mean I don't think whatever it is that gets them about porn is catching.

Dan's right, the Christian moralising religious right has already stuffed Sweden inside out and now Iceland is following. There is definitely something about the Scandinavian mindset and this big downer on pleasure (and here was me thinking it was just we miserable Scots).

Anyway, three things to note about Iceland 1. the women are gorgeous and very friendly 2. It is geographically amazing. Quite amazing. The combination of very active vulcanism and an arctic environment is really astonishing. 3. So far as I know, the Icelanders have taken a lead in arresting and jailing those responsible for the world economic crisis (the bankers) and tearing up all their loan agreements...and after a very short period in which everyone else condemned them, guess what? Their credit rating has recovered and their economy is doing very nicely.

Not so entirely stupid.
