Because, I don't see it changing societies views of transwomen. Its girls half naked in the club, jumping around shaking their titties, then telling their stories. I thought the point of these documentaries was to let people know we can do something OTHER THAN sell sex in one form or another. The flyers for the shows party, which I am guessing is directly related and run by the production company, are marketed like a porn site, or one of the TS parties here in NYC. I would be extremely surprised to see this documentary going beyond the eyes of anyone in the "community". Okay now my mind jumped to something else I was working on, so I completely lost my train of thought, but I think I said a lot of what I was feeling.

While I understand what StyleMeCunty is saying..I think it should also be told or shown..that many girls who are well educated and perfect for a mainstream job wont get it just because they are transsexual.

It's easy when you transition on the job, but harder to find a good paying job that will support your transition and basic needs.

So I think they should get the message out there why many girls turn to sex work, because of the discrimination in the job market.

So unless they want to go into beauty and fashion...getting a suit and tie job is a lot harder to achieve...

    What is your point?

I was speaking on why many girls turn to sex work. Whether it be camming, adult work, gogo dancing, drag impersonation, stripping or escorting.

Not to mention many girls are thrown out of their homes or disowned at a young age.

With out opportunity to get an education or help.

There seem to be two threads running on this new series. What Stile and Kelly have said echos my reservations posted on the other thread. Yes, this will showcase those girls who go clubbing and work in the business and it will probably be sassy and fun. But what about the silent majority of the transgendered - those women going about their lives and facing the day to day emotional and physical and employment challenges of being a TS woman? I don't see any indications that this will look at that at all. I suspect the drive here is to make a sexy programme which admirers will love. But which won't break or challenge stereotypes at all. It's an opportunity missed?

when you said "many girls who are well educated and perfect for a mainstream job" i thought you meant in the media (as in mainstream film & television or adult/pornography) but now i see you mean regular jobs as opposed to hooking

i agree with your assessment in that this show is targeted for people already admiring or into the trangendered scene. even the kickstarter page doesn't have a trailer or pilot that would help them finance the show- it simply "tells" you their intention- so anyone who's already not familiar with this scene wouldn't really be compelled to look into it further.

Most girls like that don't want to be "out"

When I went to high school as a girl and had the chance to go on talk shows and other media outlets..that was the furthest thing from my mind.

I didn't want a circus or to be made a mockery.

    or to be "known"

I wanted my peers to know I was me for me..not for fame and definitely didn't want to be recognized walking down the street or in job interviews so my life would be EASIER.

It wasn't till later..around 25/26 I decided to put myself out there. Cause I worked 9 to 5 job after 9 to 5 job and never seemed to have enough to afford surgeries.
