actually it gets a little confusing here. hetrosexual men use the term trap to mean a passable transsexual. so you'd have threads where people would (say for example) post women they'd find attractive, and someone would knowingly or unknowingly post a picture of a transsexual and another person would reply "that's a trap" as a kind of "there is more than meets the eye" commentary.

on this forum however, it seems they've changed the meaning of traps to only refer to crossdressers. not sure why that is, but it's only on this forum.

'Trap' seems to have originated in Japanese Manga, where gender-changing has long been popular, not always in porn or sexualised terms. One early example was Ranma 1/2, which appeared in the 90s. It's a long graphical novel that told the story of a boy who had been cursed so that he turned into a girl if cold water landed on him and back to a boy with hot water. It's very funny and a great commentary on gender politics and growing up in Japan.

The actual 'trap' term seems to have come from the distinctive style of Japanese Manga, with very stylised features, big eyes etc and for girls, prettyprettypretty clothes. Especially, the characters look very young, almost child-like. This crossed over into real life. The term 'trap' was originally a reference to their apparent age, something like 'jail-bait' in the West.

Even today, 'traps' are not necessarily mtf crossdressers, they are often genetic girls, both in fact and fiction. The whole thing is about appearing to be very sexually attractive but too young to fuck. This is where the danger is, and why it's thrilling.

Childbirth is extremely painful and dangerous for humans and was until very recently, a major killer. A girl having her first child in her mid-teens had more chance of survival than one who began later. Therefore, young mothers were more likely to succeed in bringing babies into the world and perpetuating the mother and father's genes. So men are evolved to be attracted to very young females.

Our society, however, for very good reasons, denies access to fertile young girls who are in that age range. We may be turned on by very young-looking girls, but they are off-limits; we may look but not touch. 'Trapping' is about playing with that tension, which is why the exaggerated references to youth.

So 'trap' is really about a style, which is why it is part of the Cosplay scene. Since transvestites by definition like to dress up as girls it's a natural place to be. Bailey Jay began in there.

The idea that 'trap' refers to any tg/ts is highly transphobic because it implies that they are not real women, but predatory males seeking to trick other men into sex.

So,to Amy, for me, 'trapping' is about style and look, a very outrageous fashion scene, and a 'trap' could either be a cis-girl, ts/tg or a male crossdresser. A transsexual (mtf) is a woman who has male genitalia.

Mac, you're a cool guy, but some of the things you come out with as facts are just funny.

A proven "birther" of any species who is successfully raising offspring has a much higher survival probability on subsequent births than a younger female who never has. So males should really be turned on by females with big hips (wide birthing canal) who has a couple of rugrats hanging off her nipples...lol...btw, what's the evolutionary explanation for guys being turned on to TGirls?

It did come from a meme. It's based on bailey jay's experience when she wasn't on hormones or anything. So "trap" basically means a passable TS without hormones or surgery starting out very young. Since there isn't a lot of super passable traps without hormones some are "slightly boyish" as you put it. I think a lot of guys have a fantasy of breaking in a trap and having a young trap submit to them as a girl.

Yeah it could be a fetish thing. But imho, generally the TS that are labelled as traps are really beautiful (Bailey Jay). With the old meme, if one were to be attracted to one its a "trap" because secretly they were not born female. So one would be "trapped" into being gay by a super beautiful and passable male.

The whole thing is childish, juvenile, and transphobic. But I think that stigma will eventually wear away as time passes on and then trap will only mean a young passable and beautiful TS. Who wouldn't be attracted to that?

It is what you make it. I've always promoted myself as a trap and am proud of it. The worst thing haters can do is call me a trap and I can say I know as I'm flipping the whole world off.
