I really dont understand the wild attraction wealthy people have for the Dubai and other ME states other than doing buissness and leaving ASAP. It seems too unpredictable socially and legally to me, and the penalties for crossing the line are way too harsh.

If it were up to me they could have their little religious desert land and keep it to themselves. There are plenty of cool places in the world with out all the religious hassle.

The answer is in your own words 'wealthy people' -Dubai is attractive because of its liberal regulations on residency and taxes which is also one reason why Halliburton relocated from Texas five or so years ago, although its Middle Eastern interests helped as well. Dubai doesn't have the oil and gas reserves of Abu Dhabi and has been re-inventing itself as a business hub being situated between Europe and Asia -if you are in Dubai you are roughly 6-7 hours from all the important places other than North America; it has a warm climate in the winter, it has modern facilities that wealthy people like and, crucially, can pay for, and if you have that kind of wealth it won't be difficult to meet and greet the people who matter so that if you do have a 'little difficulty' there will be someone who can help and all you need is donate $50,000 to his favourite charity.

Wealthy people use their money, that's what it's there for. Paying an escort $5,000 or $10,000 a night is equivalent to most of us buying an escort a meal- in the 1980s wasn't there an Arab sheik (allegedly) who offered to fly Brigitte Nielsen first class to wherever for a $1m fuck? It does not matter how rich dubai or the middle east is. IN THE END ITS STILL THE MIDDLE EAST!! I recall that on TVChix a couple of years ago there was a TV whose thing WAS dressing up as an arab woman in a Burka.....

That's the case Nina. I wasn't suggesting he was a transvestite out of any sexual intent. In fact he was with a member of the ruling family in Bahrain - one of the King's sons i think - who for a while put jackson up at his palace.
