Re: Do you guys like Prospero as a Moderator???
Erm what part of his post did you not read oh yes maybe it was this part below
"A ts member here berated him with racist rants, threats of violence.etc, and this person now works for "the company"
Looks like 1 racist mod in the gang from where I am sitting
I had a feeling Prospero had friends in high places then it turns out he was in the high place shock horror lol, got to say on the whole I like him as he is diplomatic, cordial, an intellectual and something of a gentleman I say this in spite of the fact that I suspect he was the one who had a hand in banishing me from this forum for a year (and didn't know you get warnings as I never received 1)
Should add, that I think on balance Prospero makes a good mod and I do not believe he is a racist

Re: Do you guys like Prospero as a Moderator???
I read his entire post. In order to show someone has made an adverse decision based on race, you have to demonstrate that but for that person's race they would not have been banned. This is the logical standard courts apply in civil rights cases although they don't apply it to forum bannings. It's very difficult to demonstrate that race was the deciding factor when the person in question has gotten into a lot of confrontational situations with the site owner. Would Daryl have gotten banned if he were white? I think so.
You also didn't really present a relevant comparator group. This is a site based around transsexuals providing entertainment. It is part of the dynamic as Grimfusion said above, even unavoidable that on average the administrators are going to be more lenient when it comes to transsexuals. You may not think that's fair, but it's a far cry from race-based animus.
Finally, I understand tsdvdman's last claim that maybe there's some sort of unconscious bias applied against African-Americans in which certain characteristics are tolerated in the majority culture but not from minorities. A good example of this would be if an outgoing white guy is considered "quirky" whereas an outgoing black guy is considered "obnoxious". The same behavior may be interpreted differently based on people's sublimated prejudice. Again, I think it's one thing to say you think that's a general phenomenon and another to say it's operative in a given case. I just haven't seen anything really tangible suggesting it is.

Re: Do you guys like Prospero as a Moderator???
I think most of us on HungAngels can deal with robust comment, whether it is a disagreement about who is the sexiest ts in the world, whose music is the best or the worst, Obama or Romney, or the cost of an escort. Arguing is not in itself a problem, even when it descends into childishness, as recently when I and some other posters were described as 'functionally illiterate', a 'moron' and so on, which anyway tells you more about that poster than it does about me or the other targets of a posters ire.
The difference must be posts that target individuals in a manner that is not fair on this forum because it wouldn't be fair in real life. If there are reasons why many people retain their anonymity on this forum, it is because you never know who is browsing it -and people with no interest in transexuals do browse, I am sure- but also because there are some people who either don't have social skills, or think they can say anything they like and claim the right of free speech.
We have to trust that our moderators will be lenient in all but the most extreme cases; and if we think someone has been banned for no good reason, I assume we can appeal the decision. For what its worth, I enjoy the diversity of opinion, I enjoy the madness, the craziness, the zany posts, the information and entertainment I get and I reckon 99% of fellow members here are decent people. This is one of those cases where the 1% need attention every now and then, which is why we need moderators.

Re: Do you guys like Prospero as a Moderator???
Haven’t been around long enough to judge of Daryl’s precise situation. This being said, I gather that even humour sometimes may have limits, especially if it’s constant.
And yes, we have to respect contingencies, if you allow the expression: we are on a privately owned porn forum indeed, and we all have to respect that.
As far as I’m concerned, I haven’t felt in any circumstance so far any type of racial or ethnic discrimination here. But maybe am I wearing rosy eyeglasses.
You're right, Grim, I guess I should stand corrected on that one; although I don't think he's been "cordial", and not by a long shot, I admit he hasn't been as bad since this unpleasant beginning. It's true.

Re: Do you guys like Prospero as a Moderator???
I treat this board as being a guest a someone's house. Their house, their rules. They are not required to act in manner that is logical even though we hope they do. If it becomes unpleasant then I guess its time to go to another person's house to hang out. All and all if the place is fair and open then people will stay. Which is why the job of mod is tough, you won't be liked by everyone no matter how friendly. Thats my 2 cents (its amazing what you can do when you rub two pennies together.)

Re: Do you guys like Prospero as a Moderator???
Well I think I better retire now!
Two things. Moderators can't ban anyone. We can just delete posts and that's about it really (or move them from one forum to another... )
And we can't re-instate someone who has been banned.
That's in the gift of the owner of this site Seanchai... the best moderator of all. (do i get a brown nose award for that?)

Didn't know he was a moderator...but I don't/wouldn't have a problem with it.
BTW...Who are all the moderators on this site?....Are all the original mods still mods?

Re: Do you guys like Prospero as a Moderator???
well now that we know you can't ban anyone, perhaps I'll change my opinion. (recall when you recommended banning me for being a racist?) Not your finest moment.
So let's take a look at the literal meaning of moderator...
. one who presides over meeting, assembly or discussion....ok...perhaps you've grown since your unfortunate outburst against me
. one who arbitrates .........Let's hope it's not a political discussion you're asked to arbitrate as you're known to be to the left of Bernie Sanders
. non partisan presiding officer uh-oh....that's a problem as you come to the table with an inherent bias, so we'll see what happens over on the Political Boards.
So to answer the OP's question...."Do you guys like Prospero as a Mod"
I have no opinion.... but there was a time here when almost none of us knew who the mods were. I think Flabby was one, but the fact we didn't know is a good thing. I thought debates needed moderators, not porn sites, but I could be wrong.
