    Default Obama-Romney.. London odds ??

I don't understand the way you blokes make the spread.
I would imagine London books are making Obama the small favorite. So how does it work? Let's say I wanna bet 100 quid on Obama. what do I risk? 120? 140?
And if I back Romney, do I get back 120 for my 100?

In baseball wagering here in the states we quote Yankees 180-160 vs Blue Jays. That means you risk 180 to bet 100 on Yanks. If you bet Blue Jays you put up 100 to win 160.

Obama is 2/5 and Romney 15/8 (Ladbrokes) so that's a bit firmer than a small favourite.

At those odds if you bet £100 stake money on Obama you'd collect £40 plus your £100 stake when he wins the election.

At those odds if you bet £100 stake money on Romney you'd collect £187.50 plus your £100 stake when he wins the election.

I don't think there's any tax to pay these days - you used to pay it (9% I think) on the stake to avoid paying it on winnings.

I don't think you can bet on any election in Vegas, A.C. or anywhere else in the U.S.

yes, that makes Obama quite a big favorite. I'd be laying 250 to win 100
    thanks for the explanation
