I’m at an age where passion is a bit of a luxury, and sometimes an illusion. I’m talking about raw passion, almost a rage for what you do and love or even like. But there’s another way to be passionate, a quiet way, a tranquil way. When you’re young, this way seems boring and silly. But in many regards, it’s deeper than raw passion is. You just get, at one point, so sure of whom you are and of what you want to do, that you become a rock; nothing can move you anymore. Your passions have become, beyond deep convictions, who you are, and there’s no way to change them anymore, you’ll just die with them. And it’s true in love much more than in anything else: when you decide to be with someone after 50, it usually is because you know, not just because you love. You just decide to let someone complete yourself deep down.
