OMK made a valid point. if you don't participate, join the debate and vote then you can hardly complain about the result.

I just wish there were other viable parties that could make it to the ballot, the two main choices just don't cut it.

Don't think I agree with you completely, but I do think its true that the President of the United States (whoever he is) doesn't make that much of a difference to the lives of everyday citizens.

This is veering into the realm of the firmly political. Of course the President makes a difference - though the present one has been hobled after the mid term elections by an entirely negative GOP majority.

And if the GOP were to win then the incoming president will certainly make a difference. The rich will be better off and the poor and the sick will suffer.

As for voting machines deciding. Well silly nonsense.

With unemployment at historically high levels for such a long time we have every right to be upset. Both sides should agree on that. I just feel that government is not the answer, it is the problem.

Be very careful what you wish for.

Here in Canada we have 3 main (Conservative, Liberal and New Democrats) and 2 fringe (the Greens and Bloc Quebecois) parties represented in the House of Commons.

The vote splits that result can make for what is called a minority parliament. One party gets more seats than any other individual party, but not more than the other parties combined.

Example: Before the Conservatives won their majority in 2011 they had 144 seats out of the 308 in the House of commons.

The other opposition parties had the other 164.

That meant the opposition could join together and defeat the government at any time.

From 2004 to 2011 we had FOUR elections.

Lots of Canadians WISHED we had a two party system during those 7 years.
