Paul Ryan to be Romney's running mate?

Seems likely. The tea party are pushing hard for this guy to be the running mate. I think he would be to Romney what Dick Cheney was to Bush.

For those who can stomach it, this disheartening profile ran in the New Yorker a couple of weeks ago.

Ryan is an egoist. A staunch follower of Ayn Rand.

The basis of the egoist philosophy is that self interest is the driving force behind all human actions. Not "should be", but "is". The philosophy denies the very existence of altruism.

Now back to Ryan: He claims to be a Christian. Not just a Christian, but Catholic. How does this work? How do you preach egoism while claiming to be a devoted follower of the most altruistic persona in the history of the human race? I don't see a way to reconcile this contradiction. Ryan's either a fraud or too stupid to see the problem. That also goes for the rest of the cultists who put Ayn Rand up as some kind of demigod while trying to usurp & twist the various Christian faiths to fit their nonsensical ideal.

The contradictions of this guy don't end with the Catholic/egoist dichotomy. He's for rolling back much of the social safety net while having lived off Social Security survivor benefits through most of his young adult life. After that, he moved to DC and has been on the dole for the remainder of his life. He preaches against programs that supposedly promote dependency in the general population without seeing it when he looks in the mirror. Self-starter, this guy is not.

I wonder if Romneyshambles and Ryan (sounds like a firm of dodgy accountants) will take their cue from the Prophets of Austerity in Britain and take to the podium to declare, as David Cameron has done and say: We shall all be living with austerity until at least 2020; while the economy is predicted by the Bank of England to 'grow' from somewhere between 0% and 0.8%. How does that sound America? Is this what you want? If it isn't hurting, it isn't working. No Pain, No Gain. Great way to win the confidence of the voters....

All this interest and intrigue on a Congressman who's life is pretty much an open book, and 4 years ago your curiosity was rather dormant. It mattered not that Barry's life was pretty much a mystery from when his grandparents sent him off to Indonesia until he resurfaced in Chicago as a community organizer with the support of domestic terrorist Bill Ayers and convicted felon Tony Resko. Those associations really never made it on your radar screen, or if they did....you excused them away as irrelevent. You never for a moment wondered what 20 years of sermons from Rev. Wright did to Barry's thinking....but you're sure fascinated with Ayan Rand and what affect it's had on Ryan. No college writings or admissions records, no transcripts, no work history. Yet you all will go back and scour every day of Paul Ryan's life and every paper he's ever written looking to make the connection that he's really an extremist. Your selective curiosity, your blind allegiance, and your utter hypocrisy reveals you for what you are.
Paul Ryan has a plan......try to deal with that in the absence of your guy's lack of substance and leave his high school girlfriend and what books he's read where they belong.
My guess is there were people like Paul Ryan sounding the alarm in places like San Bernadino, CA ( now insolvent) Stockton, California ( now bankrupt) Providence RI ( teetering on insolvency) Jefferson County, Alabama ( bankrupt) and dozens of other small cities in every state...and there were people like you all laughing it off, deflecting attention off the issue with nonsense or personal attacks, espousing the virtue of Keynesian philosophy and public employee unions , and calling those voicing serious concerns extremists or Tea Partiers. Ask the current mayors and the residents of all these cities if they should have heeded the warnings.

Ryan's plan - already rejected by Bush - is to deconstruct anything that will look after the poor and the needy. He has a religious faith in the market. He claims to be a Christian. But then so does OMK - a sad apology for a human being - and he clearly has read none of the Gospels or the teachings of jesus about caring for the poor and the needy.

You'll reap a very nasty whirlwind when the selfish little bastards now trying - and succeeding - in taking over the GOp are elected.
