And my apologies, Prospero. It's a very intriguing start.

But as it's in Scotland, they've obviously all died of excess cholesterol, so there's no mystery after all.....

Hell ,I remember the COAL MAN .
My parent's three story brownstone ,in Jersey City, where I was born had a COAL CELLAR . The guy would open a hatch in the sidewalk and dump it down a chute , 2 kinds ,hard and soft (bituminous and anthracite).
We had a large restaurant style kitchen with a big coal-burning stove that even had water tanks and plumbing that heated the water for the whole building.

You got it... when i was a kid we had deliveries from the coalmen... and a little outhouse in which we stored all the coal, later anthracite, to put in the coal firing boiler to heat the house and hot water

    Love that range.....
