It in part comes from anime/manga with crossdressing.
The initial form of it perhaps may be a bit transphobic, but A WHOLE LOT of younger T*'s use it in their ids (as you mentioned, Bailey Jay was quite famous online as Line Trap) so perhaps reclaiming the word..i dunno.

The canonical anime example is a video game character, Bridget from the Guilty Gear series. In fact the web site TVTropes has a trope on gender-swapped characters that at one point was called "Dropped a Bridget on Him". (It's since been renamed "Unsettling Gender Reveal", which is more descriptive but, sadly, less witty.) So many nominally-straight guys are attracted to Bridget that there's *another* meme, "Everyone Is Gay for Bridget".

I suppose the whole "trap" thing got turned around quickly enough that it never really got traction as a term of oppression. I'm mostly familiar with the term from web boards where illiberal straight guys try to prank each other with image macros of attractive gurls, so I guessed it might potentially be offensive.
