Is that a real question? Thanos is smarter, more powerful and doesn't get stopped by some solar powered alien or some silly life equation. And if he doesn't have the power he can always figure out a way to get the infinity gems back again. So no that is not a question, unless you meant it to be rhetorical.

The point is absurdity: they are fictional characters in distinct fictional "universes" who are as powerful as the writers say they are. How do you know which one is smarter or more powerful? Even in the imaginary world of comix, they do not coexist.

Historically, Thanos is derivative of Darkseid (being created two years later and in many ways imitating Kirby's original). The infinity gems and gauntlet are tools; the comparison is between the characters, not their tools.
