Why do some girls consider themselves trans, but not women?

I've seen a few girls here do this, as well as a few trans girls I've met in person. I don't quite understand the logic behind it as the definition of being trans is being a woman born into a male body. It's not that I deny or try to hide the fact I'm transsexual, but I'm also just a woman. I'm not bashing anyone who feels this way, but I just don't understand it. How can you be transsexual but not consider yourself a woman? I understand if you're proud of who you are and the struggle you've gone through but I think it confuses people who aren't so trans-savy when people say things like this, and they think we aren't really women? Hopefully I'm not offending anyone but I'd just like to know the reasoning behind it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Maybe I was a little hard on you in that last topic, but let me go ahead and answer this one for ya. You're both transsexual and a woman. If this weren't HungAngels and I ran into you on the street somewhere, you'd never hear me refer to you as transsexual, transgendered, or any of the other terms coined and used around here. I'd only refer to you as a woman.

That's private conversation stuff, though. It's pretty easy to infer that I'm talking about you when I'm only talking to you. Shit just gets a little murkier when you're addressing a community of people because it can't be assumed everyone understands that "she" is referring to a transsexual and not a GG (another great term coined in online transgender forums. ).

Please don't infer that I mean any kind of disrespect when I do call you transsexual. I'm not saying you need to wear it as a badge, but you shouldn't be insulted by it. It's proof that you've struggled to become the chick you are today. You've dealt with more than any GG ever has had to just to feel comfortable with yourself, and the word 'transsexual' only separates you from the cross dressers and transvestites that clearly don't have the same ambition or goals and don't have to mess with the drama from friends and family.

Nah... it's a non-issue. It's not like I'm trying to pull drama from one thread into another. It wasn't drama to begin with. I just thought it was a little coincidental, but if you say there's no correlation, I believe ya.

In some cases it's a cultural thing. For example, in the Philippines all gays and transgendered are considered gay (bakla in Tagalog), a generic term covering all non-hetero persons born male. The Transpinay movement has made inroads in distinguishing gays from transgendered women, and thereby bring more respect to the trans community there, but it's slow. Also, especially in porn and escorting spheres, Filipina transwomen have largely borrowed the English "ladyboy" term, itself adapted from the Thai "kathoey" to describe themselves. Yet survey online escort ads, and you'll find 95% of Transpinay escorts will list their sex as male, whereas in Thailand, the concept of a third sex is well-accepted (albeit within their own cultural limitations).

I feel like a woman... consider myself a woman... but the term "woman" is pretty meaningless when you want to describe me...there are so many different woman out there. There are a lot of woman out there that are very different from who I am.

The term TS, or TSwoman I find even more limited. When it comes to TS... I feel more different then them usually ...also I am different from most TS.

With woman its the other way around. I am more like the majority of woman. With some important exceptions... I did not have a happy childhood and could not be a girl back then... this made me very humble... I have overcome a lot of obstacles and hardships to become myself.... I think differently from a lot of woman since I know I cannot give a man children...

And most important... even though I feel like a woman I also feel like I am an outsider when it comes to both men and woman. Just because my background differs from both of them... and this is something they can never understand (good for them!).

This is also positive... because I look at life differently... and I have noticed this is what people find attractive about me!

actually i think it confuses people more if you say you're a woman instead of saying you're a trans-woman (or transsexual woman). curiously, you only see this kind of humility with seasoned trannies, whilst younger ones insist on only being called "women" with no hints whatsoever of their transsexuality.
