My girlfriend is going to have SRS
Hello everyone,
I haven't posted in a little while but I have been lurking for the past couple of weeks. Good to see the drama is still running on all cylinders.
Me and my girlfriend are really happy together and we're living in a small house in Thailand. She works at a golf resort doing customer service and marketing/sales while I teach Maths at a local school. We've had some ups and downs but all is well and good. We have mutual friends and acquaintances and soon I will meet her parents (a BIG step). I love her so much and plan to spend the rest of my life with her.
************************************************** ************************************************** ************************************************** *
She has always wanted to get SRS ever since she was young. She elaborated that she will feel more comfortable, confident, and be more healthy. Also, others will be more accepting of her including her family.
Now recently we had a chat where that she wants to have SRS and soon. Apparently the Thai government are soon going to officially recognize post-op transsexuals as a third gender. As a result, domestic companies will be less likely to discriminate against my girlfriend. She is still young and feels that she should get the operation very soon so that she can be more 'free' to develop her career.
So this has taken me by a little bit of surprise. I feel like I am unprepared as we originally planned to arrange for the operation much later in life. I have to admit that when it comes to this topic I'm a total noob. All I know really is that Dr. Suporn is the best in the country. And I learned that from one of Danielle's threads.
Do you guys have any tips to share for how I can be supportive of her? What should I be prepared for before, during and after the operation?
Any and all good info will be much appreciated.

Re: My girlfriend is going to have SRS
I helped a university friend through her transition about ten years ago. We're still very close - platonically - as I was just about the only friend from her male days who stuck by her. Not the same situation therefore, but I certainly remember massive mood swings, panic attacks and sleepless soul-searching, and after the surgery she hadn't anticipated how weak she would be.
All I can say is just be there and let her know in actions as well as words how much you care. You're already in a close and loving relationship, but I guess you might have to give her additional reassurance whenever it's needed. Sorry I can't help you more, but you've always come across as a sensible and caring guy, so between you you have all the necessary ingredients to come through it successfully.
And Claire's story ended very happily. She's in a loving civil partnership with a great guy and I never had a prouder day than when she asked me to give her away at the ceremony. They're hoping to adopt too.
Good luck, Derek. PM me if you like.

Thanks Wendy. Not everyone arrives here via the porn route.
Working with and loving Claire as a friend has been one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences of my life. I'm blessed.

Re: My girlfriend is going to have SRS
Here's an excellent website that goes into detail about the surgery and postoperative care necessary. It has some graphic surgical photos, so be aware when you decide to visit the site!
http://ai.eecs.umich.edu/people/conway/TS/SRS.html
She will be definitely in pain for quite some time after surgery. I would encourage her to take her pain medications on a regular schedule for the first 5 days or so post surgery, instead of the "as needed" usual directions. This should help control her pain better and also help her recover a bit more quickly. For example if the directions are every six hours as needed, she should take them every six hours on schedule for the period of time I suggested post surgery.
Also I would recommend that she goes to a top dr. Dr. Suporn is definitely one of the best, but there are other excellent Thai SRS surgeons as well. She shouldn't look to save money by going to a very low priced doctor.
Of course she will be bed bound for a while post surgery, so you should take some time off of work, or have one of her relatives around to help with needs until she is mobile again. One reason why the Thai prices for SRS is so low, is because they go some shortly after SRS and have friends/relatives look after them until they are mobile again. Foreign TS don't usually have this kind of help and stay in the hospital longer.
Good luck to you and your partner as she takes this big step in her life!
