LAPD Drops Transgender Pat-Downs, Eyes Separate Detention Space
http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2012/...tention-space/
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Police on Friday signaled a department-wide shift in its treatment of transgender people both on the street and behind bars, including a reported plan to provide hormone treatments to transgender detainees.
Arrested transgender men and women will be housed in a separate section of the Los Angeles Police Department’s downtown Metropolitan Detention Center by the end of the month, according to a report published Friday.
If I got a dime every time I read an ad with purloined photos I could retire right now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QjS0AbRpAo Andenzi, izimvo zakho ziyaba.

I'm not sure about the hormones....most of the time you're lucky if you can get an aspirin for a 3 day migraine, but having separate, segregated, secure facilities makes sense.

I think its great! I know because when ur housed with men they can try to hurt you and they wont house u with women. I think its good because we are the 3rd gender we should be put with others like us.

Just saw that story on the news. While it's good they are trying to make changes at the horrendous LA County Jail, they need sweeping reform/Federal takeover. Go to laweekly dot com for dozens of horror stories over the last year or two. I read a story last week about a man stuck in the jail for three months due to a 48 hour imigration hold. He was lucky he said that he was housed in the separate "gay" section and praised the TG inmates for helping/being kind.
On a less serious note, someone needs to make a porn film about a T-Girl cell block.

Re: LAPD Drops Transgender Pat-Downs, Eyes Separate Detention Space
I think it might work the same as if an inmate was diabetic and they had to supply him with insulin since by detaining him they are medically liable. It is true, lots of people go to jail just so they can have some basic necessities like health care, food, shelter, water, company.
I think this is a big step forward because there have been a ton of angry people lately with the stress of no work and no money and that translates to picking on people society sees as easy targets, like a small group called the trans-gender community.
