They had to be tough - to survive being left out on the hillside to fend for themselves. By the way have you been to modern Sparta? Very lovely town and Mount Taygetus above the town is where the babies were dumped. It is now crowded by a crusader castle and a whole mess of other ruins including some Greek Orthodox monasteries.Well worth a visit.
