I didn't like them because they weren't talented. Zappa did it as a spoof, Bowie did it , but Poison did it to cover the fact they couldn't play a lick. It's the same reason Twisted Sister and Kiss did it. I know Dee Snyder, and actually like the dude , but he's not a musician...not by my standard. I never liked any of their music, but I never thought for a second they were pipe cleaners....the dudes were gettin' tons of pussy. I was far more disturbed when I read in Rolling Stone that Jagger and Bowie found themselves in the same bed after 3 days of partying in a London flat !! lol
