Rock 'n' Roll Bands That Went Through A Disco Phase
Wasn't crazy about it but I dealt. Some songs were pretty good. Rap mixing into Metal is what made me angry.

I don't think with out musicians experimenting some music genres would never have been found. I mean Nirvania, Linkin Park, Rage Against the machine all came out of multiple genres. Even country rap came out of experimentation.

Re: Rock 'n' Roll Bands That Went Through A Disco Phase
It's understandable for a musician or band to want to "grow as an artist" but when they alienate their core audience they deserve any backlash they get from the fans. So long as it's not some lame attempt to make a cash grab out of whatever is popular at the time I'm okay with it.
One thing that pisses me off is when I pay money to go to a concert and the band plays a lot of shit from their new album rather than what made me like them in the first place.

Disco Dead love it Shakedown Street Tell Me this town aint got no heart
btw the Grateful Dead fell into the 5% that did not tour for albums, infact most of their songs were played for 5 or more years prior to an album containing the song was ever recorded.

One or two songs off the new album is fine but when I go see a band it's because I like their catalogue, not necessarily their new shit.
For example, if I ever went to see Metallica (not that I would) it'd be to hear Master of Puppets and not that crap they did with Lou Reed.

you do realize that the purpose of concerts are to promote albums...not play the same old shit. if you want a greatest hits show, wait till a band is no longer popular and desperate for money. otherwise stay at home because you are the type of fan most bands end up despising because fans that only want to hear songs they like are poor fans!

I do like when bands have shows built around classic albums. Judas Priest doing British Steel complete is great.
Classic performance here from Mid-South Coliseum 1982
