Default Glenn Hughes = Worst Back-up/Lead Vocals Ever

Shut up and let Coverdale do the whole song. Blackmore musta wanted to kick his ass.

He actually sings better when he's not on the coke.

At times, it sounds like Coverdale is singing with a mouthful of Cheerios.

Hardly a fair comparison Dino - a live performance vs a studio album.

Both Coverdale and Hughes are excellent on studio recording. Not seen Hughes live recently but I saw Coverdale last year and he definitely still has it.

Coverdale is great. Hughes just takes away from the greatness. Glenn managed not to intrude too badly in this song.

Actually, when it comes to Deep Purple, they both take a back seat to Ian Gillan ...though I believe Coverdale's voice may have held up better over time.

Ian Gillan is, of course, the better Deep Purple lead singer. Poor Ian can barely belt out Child In Time anymore. The Born Again album from Black Sabbath might have done his vocal chords in. Coverdale looks like a Vegas lounge singer now but his voice still sounds good.

That was probably a harsh album to sing...lol. Remember watching him with Black Sabbath, when they performed their rendition of "Smoke on the Water"...It didn't sound overplayed when they did it. It sounded cool.
