I've heard the latino culture is kind of intolerent of gays but I'm not sure how that would translate into a higher percentage of transgendered individuals among that group.

Isin't transexualism something you're born with and has nothing to do with race or culture?

Hell, I'll bite. I won't throw the original poster under the bus like so many others. I think it is a good question. It is not without flaws but I applaud the poster for going deeper than dick sizes and fucking.

I don't know if numbers of transsexuals among Afrocan Americans is higher but I do think Black TS are disproportionally more visable overall. For many years it has been relatively easy to find a sizable click of Black TS girls in almost any decent sized urban area.

Do I think that the attitudes to manhood vs femininity effect the Black TS, yes. I think the fact that being feminine within ones mind goes so far against what Black men are told that a TS facing that is more likely to know at a younger age that that whole machismo thing is not who they are.

I don't ever think these factors will turn a non TS into a TS. But I think those factors will enable a TS to accept those feelings and be less likely to keep them within. Think about it, some doctor's believe that most TS women never take the plunge and go on to live lifes as men complete with wives, kids, beer bellies and beards. It is more common for some to take those feelings and never face them.

You are much less likely to find older Black transwomen that transition later in life than thier white counterparts. So we can't deny that thier are some cultural differences.

But I think there are much more factors involved than the machismo/homophobia thing. Such as the proximity to larger cities that so many Blacks reside plays a part. The access to gay and trans subculture. Also the fact that Black gay culture is more open to trans women than white gay culture. I've seen in many cities where the only outlet for white trans women is in more minority groupings.

That acceptance by the Black gay community plays a big part. I've seen some girls that go the TS route just because it offers them an indentity, only to later find that they really aren't truly TS women. I've seen it with all kinds of girls but a lot more with Black girls.

That whole spacial aspect is not just a Black thing, look at all of the young girls that you find in cities like New York and LA (of all races). Access plays a huge part.

Ever notice the seeming disproportionately high number of black tgirls out there? I wonder why. Are there undo overly masculine pressures put on young black boys that make them envy the life of a girl? I don't know. Any ideas?

Yeah, I don't see a problem with looking at the effect of high levels of machismo and the attitudes towards the definition of what is feminine and what is masculine combined with certain forms of homophobia plays on the psyche of those in within that culture.

It is never as simple of one factor but there are cultural differences.

Here in the US, African Americans only represent about 12% of the entire population. I don't know the numbers of Blalck TS women but it woud appear to me that the numbers are higher than 12% of the TS women that make themselves viewable and known.

Look at the various pages about successful TSs (posted elsewhere) and you will see doctors, actors, computer programmers, and engineers and such. Regardless of whne thee people transitioned, they had the resources to get an education adn avoid getting caught in the sex industry we ll see everyday.

So many girls start out saying I'm only going escort/porn to pay for my surgeries or go back to school. Then get caught up and never get out.Those walking the streets may have never even thought they could find a better way. But there are "invisible" TSs who blend into society and use their resources to become the women they've always wanted to be .... how can we know what percentage of them are black/white/latino or whatever.
