90% of the movies being made in the last decade. Anything where CGi dominates the story.
Not much of a fantasy fan, either - Lord of the Rings (I enjoyed the 1978 version, however), Harry Potter, the last 6 Star Wars or however many George Lucas has recently made.

I saw Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol in the London IMAX, a fantastic experience and the only way to see the film I think, which otherwise is the usual loony-wants-to-nuke-the-world-only-Cruise-can-save-us. IMAX is definitely worth the admission fee, the scene in Dubai in particular. As long as you don't take the film seriously.

    With regard to Genres:

    Animals
: I avoid films like National Velvet, Seabiscuit, Any Which Way But Loose because animals are a part of the film, doesn't work for me.

    Vampires
: vampire films are fundamentally films that celebrate the hatred of women, and the importance of a religious faith that relegates women to the status of breeding machines while elevating men to the status of saviour; or they are symbolic devices for creating an otherness about people which could be done more intelligently a hundred other ways. There are other vehicles for getting women to shed their clothes, its called porn.

Horror Films: I don't understand this genre, in either literature or film -I understand horror as part of the invention of the devil and hell and the medieval discourse in which human behaviour was expected to conform to whatever the Holy Roman Empire dictated, or be condemned to hell -there are various murals in English churches made to frighten people this way; in 2011 its just an excuse to show people being subjected to sickening acts of violence -having seen enough of the real thing in a London hospital years ago, I have no desire to indulge the sick fantasy of some third-rate director or the equally sick people who pay to see this drivel. If this is your idea of entertainment, get some therapy.

For me, I think this thread would be easier to list movies that I like. Too many that I hate. Hollywood has lost all creativity. Why? The front runner to the Oscars Best Picture is a silent film, The Artist. I thought going back and rejuvenating slasher films and comic books was a cop out. This is ridiculous.

In literature, horror done right can be quite entertaining (Poe, duMaupassant, Gogol, Lovecraft). Horror in film is quite another thing. Some movies - The Descent comes to mind - use the premise of something horrible to explore relationships, character etc. But I think many - like The Human Centipede - are made to indulge sick fantasies and to feed the equally sick fantasies of the people who watch them. Not that I'm judging anyone
