Saying that I'd rather do porn than actually be on one of those programs(and have turned a few down, and wanky chat shows, and magazines and newspapers..) - I know of several fantastic looking girls whos lives have been made a misery after "Outing" themselves on national telly. I hope she does not end up the same way and it all works out well for her - i saw some pics of her she is pretty yes

Sure I understand what your saying re posting an image Such a program is extremely mainstream, your going to draw attention to yourself - no longer be able to blend into the background or transition quitely. Sadly that attention includes a huge percentage from the morons in this country...

Personally I would advise any girl to never go on such a program, it is brave if they realise the consequences, if they do not then it is more naivety in my opinion - then again many people may disagree with me !!

A TS friend of mine (Martine) knows one of the FTM on the programme, very very brave coming out in such a manner considering the area he works in etc - apparently the programme has kinda forced him into having a coming out party - as so many people did not know FTM - including Martine lol.

Life changes once you go on one of these programs- no doubt....

Those are wise words, Sammi. While I do think that things are slowly moving in the right direction here in the UK (where up here the Scottish TORIES have just voted in an openly out lesbian as their new leader FFS!), the tabloids will have a field day with the usual htt suspects leading the charge and making not just Drew's life, but all seven participants - three FTM and four MTF - a complete nightmare. I hope that Channel 4 have laid on plenty of counselling and some bloody good lawyers.

I agree with Sammi. There is a young transexual, Lucy Parker who was in a 2007 BBC documentary about her transformation. I know that not long after she moved abroad to escape all the pressure and attention that was suddenly focused on her. Shame because she came across as a really sweet girl.

I just laughed and especially at the 250pounds I was offered as payment lol told them stick another 3 zero"s on it as you are potentially wrecking people's lives just for ratings.

I haven't seen the programme and as I no longer have a signal will not be seeing it in the near future so I can't judge it precisely, but we have seen transition programmes before, from Julia some years ago, to others I cannot recall -it is basically filling a gap in the schedule which on Channel 4, criticised for losing sight of its original remit to cater to marginalised social groups, means showing things like the series they had on dwarves, the embarrassing bodies and so on.

I doubt that anything in the programme, other than the people who are in it, will be original as we have seen it all before, and frankly I wonder how much of what is seen is a true reflection of the people who opt for the surgery, and how many, re-visited years after the event can honestly claim to be satisfied. It is something of a minefield and without copious research and honesty from post-ops I can't say more. I note also that most of the people in the series appear to be young, rather than in their 40s or 50s, presumably because older transexuals are -literally?- not sexy enough.

I would rather see programmes about transexuals that focus on employment and human rights issues, not just in the UK, but worldwide. The danger in taking transexuals out of the context of everyday society is that their specific issues can be made to seem radically different from the issues everyone else faces, even though being dissatisfied with the body one is born into is at the root of a huge amount of depression in adolescence, and which in later life fuels a multi-billion $ industry. How many times are we going to hear these stories which, after 10 or 20 years, all sound the same? It might be a revelation for first timers, but once you have seen one, you have seen them all.
