Let me be the second to say:

Not that there's anything wrong with that!

Sure, some of those folks are off the wall (And some should have padded wallpaper in their rooms), but they're having fun. And, oy, have I met 'em all. From a near seven-foot tall Wonder Woman in Boston to a clamshell-bikini-wearin' hottie in N'awlins. From a group that builds the most incredible armor costumes to the girl that appeared as "The Mighty N. Dowd and Her Magnificent Headlights".

And yes, campers, those lights really lit up.

I went to a party one year where I saw Ben Franklin, Woodrow Wilson, Obi Wan Kenobi, and a Klingon arguing about sports teams.

The only rule is that "No costume is no costume" (Translated: Anybody can do nekkid, we want to see something creative).

A friend of mine was so into the old Yamato/Starblazers anime that he had a Leader Deslok uniform custom tailored for him. Really got some mileage out of his fifteen minutes, all the way to a studio tour in Japan.

There's a whole subculture of costume designers/creators who really get into the competition aspect of it. Most of the ones in that video were just fans celebrating their characters, but some of the serious costumers do some incredible stuff.

Yeah, that goes without saying. I too happen to know some people into the "anime" scene and venture to conventions we hold here in Baltimore. I can dig the ones that are truly into the design aspects. As for rabid fans who seem to completely lose themselves in the fantasy world, they're a good blend of annoying and hilarious.

Either way, this wasn't really meant to spark intellectual debate...simply induce a "haha" if you thought it was humorous or a "whatever" response if you thought otherwise.
