    Default Transgender Day of Remembrance

Over the last decade, more than one person per month has died due to transgender-based hate or prejudice, regardless of any other factors in their lives. This trend shows no sign of abating.

The Transgender Day of Remembrance serves several purposes. It raises public awareness of hate crimes against transgendered people, an action that current media doesn’t perform. Day of Remembrance publicly mourns and honors the lives of our brothers and sisters who might otherwise be forgotten. Through the vigil, we express love and respect for our people in the face of national indifference and hatred. Day of Remembrance reminds non-transgendered people that we are their sons, daughters, parents, friends and lovers. Day of Remembrance gives our allies a chance to step forward with us and stand in vigil, memorializing those of us who’ve died by anti-transgender violence.

On November 20th 2011 vigils will be held all across the country, if you cannot attend one, please take a moment this November to remember a fallen sister by lighting a candle and having a moment of silence....

Nicely said Robert.... I would hope, too, it'd get a lot of mainstream press.

In light of all the garbage here, thank you Ericka for this timely and thoughtful post. I will see if my university is sponsoring an event.

I am not only apalled at the frequency of deaths within this community but, the level of brutality exercised. These aren't just killings, they are '"Hate Crimes." The human race never ceases to amaze me with it's blatant self-righteousness. And, we're supposedly the 'smart' ones!!! I will do my best to honor this date and the sacrifices of all those subjected to this atmosphere of hate. I love you girls and, I would appreciate it if you would be more careful.

It's monstrous hate toward the entire LGBT community.
I'd add that a lot of people would hate all the guys on this site for being fond of T-Girls. They'd use hateful words to describe us all.
It's demonizing people who don't fit the typical male heterosexual Christian ideal, as it were.

I'm not a YouTuber but, that was nicely done. However, based on my personal experience during my relationship with this community...it doesn't even scratch the surface. Thanks Ben.

    Nice post, Erika. Thank you.

Folks, I hope this isn't out of line- I know some of you were very close to her- but in light of the abuse we've witnessed over the last few weeks it seems appropriate to post this.

It isn't only physical violence that we need to watch out for. The girls can be fragile.

She nearly broke my heart and our time here overlapped by only a few weeks.

Again, sorry if it's still too raw- but there is a good reason that this should hit home.
