Intelligent is more than just book smarts. There are lots of dumb people with degrees. And lots of intelligent people who do not have great formal educations. You can find pretty sharp people in every walk of life.

Dumb and stupid people are mostly mentally lazy, or so focused on material or superficial things to have any intellectual depth.

I like most of this- you're talking about innate intelligence.

You guys are being quite harsh on the dummies out there lol. I've known some fairly attractive girls who are not particularly smart but are really sweet and caring - which made them more beautiful.

Intelligence can be very attractive and can certainly enhance beauty, but it doesn't mean much if they're not decent people.

But what's the glue that holds people together for that length of time or longer, 30, 40, 50 years?

The physical attraction is always the first thing, but after that there's a growing respect, mutual trust and lasting affection. If you're romantic, the beauty remains too, and if you're lucky, the sex is good as well.

My folks were happily married for over 30 years till my Dad died. They were openly affectionate with each other and with their children. It rubs off. I would never dream of cheating on anyone once there was a clear commitment between us.
