almodovar has always used transsexual refferences in most of his films-
he used to cast post op bibi anderson in several of his early films- and in
'the law of desire' she plays a woman, and carmen maura who is a gg- played the tranny who is her silster in the film.

as well- all about my mother- which he won the oscar for best foreigh film-one of the main characters is a post op playing a pre op- he dedicates the film at the end to his mother, great actresses, bette davis, and transsexuals

his las tfilm bad education- there was also a tranny character who was principal- but it was played by a male actor
