I've never been called a "lib" in my life, which is what OMK called me today. I'm fairly apolitical. I mean, I've never even posted in this section of the forum until recently. My politics have always basically been "leave me the hell alone if I'm not bothering you". So I label these people as goose-steppers, not "conservatives".

As I pointed out in another thread, there seems to be a tactic to undermine Bachmann though a selection of images that are either scary or ones that don't do her any favours. I think that's lame really, I would rather see her exposed to her greatest weakness: the details of policy making, and whether or not, for example, her personal views on homosexuality can be translated into federal policy, which I doubt. I also doubt that social policy issues which are undoubtedly important, will be vote-winners in 2012, but I assume they can set a tone in debate. But are Americans really mad about same-sex unions? I would have preferred to see a debate in Iowa or wherever, on one single topic: where are the next generation of jobs coming from?

At this stage, its all some kind of theatre. For what its worth, the Guardian in the UK seems to think Rick Perry is a shoe-in for the GOP. I also wonder if there is an as-yet unspoken phobia about a woman being Commander-in-Chief. Policy aside, the tone of coverage on both Palin and Bachmann -and it seems similar on both sides of the Atlantic- veers toward a degree of ridicule, absent, for example, with coverage of Ron Paul, Herbert Cain or Mitt Romney. Haven't we been here before: a man with black skin will never occupy the White House? Could a Jew ever get elected President?

It's beyond the fact that Bachmann says looney things, she revels in her ignorance and DEFENDS it, which is a greater offense than the alleged 'misstatement' in the first place.

Rick Perry is no better, he thinks being POTUS means you get a red phone hotline to Jesus in times of national crisis.
I wish for once the GOP would nominate the person with an advanced degree or finished first in their class. More than ideology, I HATE seeing dumb people feel entitled to lead this country because they 'represent' America.
