To show how unlikely it is this will ever be resolved, this post is an amalgam of my prior posts on this subject, from similar painful yet pointless discussions back in 2007 and 2008.

The definition of "transsexuality" is always in flux and under discussion . One common definition is that a transsexual is a person who believes that his or her body does not reflect his or her true 'inner' gender. Another common definition is that a transsexual is a person who has had or plans to have medical or surgical treatments that alter his or her body to better reflect what the individual believes is his or her true gender. Yet another definition is a consistently strong desire to change one's anatomical gender. Transsexuals may dress and behave as individuals of the opposite sex, and may choose to use hormones or surgery to develop desired secondary sex characteristics.

Under any of these defintions, how the person really feels inside not what she does is what essentially defines her as a transsexual. Desire. Not actions. Its about may do, or plan to do, not what you have done or must do. Being a transsexual is about how you feel, not what you do or cannot do in pursuit of those feelings. Some girls who have re-transitioned were apparently never TS, despite their outer appearance, and some part time girls are, despite theirs. If you internally identify as a male, no amount of cosmetic changes will make you a transsexual, and if you internally identify as a female, no lack of changes won't exclude you as one. By that same token, just saying it doesn't make it so. A person can say they are anything, but their conduct, demeanor and behavior can say more about their inner self than their words ever can.

Transsexualism is distinct from transvestism (cross-dressing) in one key way. If a person does not desire to change their gender, then their crossdressing may ultimately be just crossdressing. But its a question of intention and is not defined, or excluded by the action itself. It can just be a kink or a fantasy. But it can also be a sincere expression of someone's inner gender. Its up to the individual to define it. They can do so by their words, or their actions. Not every person who "just" crossdresses is a TS. But some certainly are. And unless they do or say something to you, personally to warrant its withdrawal, all should be afforded some modicum of respect.

transsexual: a term used by persons born as males who dress and/or act as females to describe themselves.

cross dresser: a term used by those above to denigrate others who they don't think look as feminine as they do.

transvestite: a term used by people not in the scene to describe everyone above.
