now, let's say you take 7 total classes. the highest grade point total you could achieve would be 28. you still have to divide that by 7 to determine your grade point average

hence, there is no way a GPA can be over 4.0 (without consideration of weighted courses, and i've never seen course weights add up to 88.4 grade points
