Re: do you know anyone who got a CDC letter?
What's the purpose of this thread? Fear mongering?
"Resistant" gonorrhea and chlamydia do not exist.
Neurosyphilis is notoriously difficult to treat, but syphilis itself is exquisitely sensitive to B-lactams and has been virtually eradicated from most of the US. Public hospitals serving the poor in Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, etc are lucky to see a few cases per year.
Hepatitis A. Get the vaccine.
Hep B. Dangerous to Asian infants, not so much to Westerners who typically acquire it as adults. Get the vaccine.
Hep C. Scary, chronic infection predominates. Some serotypes are untreatable. Don't share needles. Reason #10000 to not become a transplant surgeon. Not transmitted sexually very often. No recommendations for barrier protection for serodiscordant couples.
MDR-TB. Um, stay out of Haiti? If you're middle class, get an occasional PPD screening test, and careful, your chance of getting reactivation TB is very low.
