Another HIV scare shuts down porn industry

A male adult film actor has tested positive for HIV leading to a moratorium on production. Debate continues on need for actors to use condoms while filming.

The adult film industry is pulling out of production after another porn star has tested positive for HIV.

The Free Speech Coalition, the advocacy group for the industry called for another moratorium on filming Friday after an actor tested positive for the disease. It's the third time this year an adult film performer has tested positive for the disease.

The coalition said in a statement that the actor tested positive at one of the group's testing centers. The coalition ordered a halt to filming while all possible partners are tested.

Such moratoriums aren't binding, but generally bring compliance within the industry.

"We want to make sure all performers are protected," said Diane Duke, CEO of the coalition. "The performers' health and safety is the most important thing."
The group did not release the name or any details about the performer.

The news again brings up the debate of adult film stars using condoms while filming. Many in the industry are opposed to using condoms and said it drastically affects sales.

The number of permits to film pornographic movies dropped 95% so far this year after a new law in Los Angeles County requiring adult film actors to use condoms took effect at the end of last year. Many companies either ignore the ban or film outside the county.

"Whether this performer was infected in L.A. County or not, this latest news begs the question: how many people need to become infected with HIV for the County of Los Angeles to engage actively in implementing the will of the voters of LA county to protect these performers?" AIDS Healthcare Foundation president Michael Weinstein asked in a statement, according to Radar Online. "How many more performers need to become infected for the industry to comply with existing regulations and laws requiring workplace safety?

The willful disregard by the County of Los Angeles and the Industry for the health and welfare of people is becoming more and more apparent. The industry as a whole, and the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health should be ashamed."

Nah, they'll just go out of country to shoot. Condoms will never work for porn, it just won't. Also it would be easier to control these types of occurrences with better organization. On top of that I would pay a higher salary to performers who only worked with in house talent, had a steady relationship, and didn't one night stand random people.
