I want to finally buy a good big lcd 1080p high contrast tv.
Do you guys have any advice?
Im thinking no bigger than 36-42 inches.
What are some of your experiences?
What brands do you like or dislike and why?

Since you're not being a complete dick this time...
120-240-480 hz are your new options on buying tv's
    120 is dim-240 is bright-480amazing lighting
    Hz-hertz is Refresh rate.
1080 is only pixelization But go 1080p because alot of 720p have their pixels die hence worthless tv.
with LCD or LED is 480hz 1080p
I have a 47 inch LG LED 240hz I like it only costed 1,200 after tax.
Youtube how to tune your tv model and then it will be amazing.

I have this tv at the moment, it was only 1000 quid, which is about 1500 of your dollars.

i got the 40" version, came with 2 pairs of 3d glasses, its oly about an inch thick, amazing clarity, highly reccomend it.

Go to About.com Home Theater. There you can check specs and comparisons between the different options. I will tell you that anything with a plasma base has a shortened lifecycle (personal experience).

All depends on what you want. I am told Vizio uses Sony components. Don't know if it is true. But my 2nd TV is a Vizio, and it works great. Little 22" 720p model for the bedroom. And it's hard to beat Vizio on price without going to some seriously no-name brands.

I haven't been keeping up with the latest & greatest, because I'm not currently in the market. But I watch a LOT of podcasts from CNET TV, and one thing I will suggest- skip 3D. The current 3D tech with glasses is going over like a turd in a punch bowl, and is likely to die a horrible death. IF 3D television ever catches on, it will end up being glasses-free. Or at the very least, it will use the simple, passive glasses like they use in the movie theatre, not the $150-a-pair type with batteries & all that jazz.

I'd do some research on cnet.com if I were in the market, and compare features & prices. When I buy something electronic without checking there... and it sucks... when I go there for answers, I see they already knew it sucked. So, yeah.
