For each Muslim hothead there are thousands of decent Muslim men and women with moderate views and whose aspirations are those of any other person: bringing up their kids, putting them through school and university, paying the bills, wishing their boss would get off their backs and get a life, saving some money for when they retire, hoping that the repairman will come round and sort the boiler out sometime before the next millennium, etc, etc.

It's as if one judged Judaism by just listening to the views of the Ultra-orthodox Haredi who live in Mea Shearim, or if one judged Christianity by listening to the views of a few excitable Bible-thumpers who actually believe that the world was created in six days flat and that the Bible contains the answers to eery single one of life's problems (well it didn't provide me with any tips for the boiler, and I'm still waiting for the bloody repairman...).

Personally, as an Atheist, I share the views of Prof. Richard Dawkins and think that the world would be a much more peaceful place if ALL religions were done away with. At least it would reveal the extremists of every religious stripe for what they are: a bunch of self-serving bastards who use religion to further their own agendas and who don't give a fiddler's fart about their fellow men and women.
