Gender, by definition is a set of characteristics that varies from sex to social role to gender identity, which is the gender(s) or lack of a person self identifies in (Wikipedia). Whereas, the third sex may be an intermediate state between male and female, both, neither, the ability to cross or swap genders, or a category independant of male and female (Wikipedia). Therefore, to cross or swap gender does not have to be a permanent physical change through hormones, surgery or both. It can be through gender identity or sexual role such as the male who is active and in the mindset of a male when with a woman, yet passive and in the mindset of a female when with a male or transexual.
