Re: A lot of girls are retiring...What is driving them away from the business?
I love how any topic thread over 3 pages has girls fighting by the end.
I'm not gonna bother reading any of them cause its really simple. The game is changing, for everyone, forever. Some people are adapting, trying new things, taking risks, playing it safe, whatever. Some are figuring it out, some aren't. Just about everyone is looking to re-align, and job security belongs only to those who own their own product.
Any girl who cares more about the money than the sex should go to business school and make money by exploiting girls who either take to long or never figure it out.
At least thats what everyone tells me over and over. They could all be wrong.

Re: A lot of girls are retiring...What is driving them away from the business?
Also....Some companies are making record profits and using the shitty overall economic conditions in the US to depreciate model wages and move away from the starlet model. Its simple economics. Anyone reading the Wall Street Journal twitter feed can read about record profits amidst depreciating wages. Workers in any job have very little bargaining power right now, and that extends all the way into the sex industry.

Re: A lot of girls are retiring...What is driving them away from the business?
I'm curious what companies you think are making "record" profits these days? And I wonder how in the Adult business they are making it off the backs of "talent"? I think what you will actually find is that the industry is really in the toilet and the few companies who are still shooting are using that fact as leverage to get talent to work cheaper. But I think it is MUCH more loss mitigation than windfall profit making.
Just because you don't know about it, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist: http://www.hungangels.com/board/view...=asc&start=158

Re: A lot of girls are retiring...What is driving them away from the business?
Meoww!! FFfft! Hisss!!! (okay, that's me joining the catfight - ok not really, I have no issues with Bella or Amy)
I really don't know where I stand in all this but I get called a starlet, unknown, ameteur, professional, veteran and novice all at the same time.. Do I have any clout in this biz? Well, I suppose as someone who has done what I do for about 10 years and hasn't had a "real" 9-5 job since then, I suppose I am some measure of success.
And yeah, I've seen things nose dive, or at least slow down a lot. I haven't been as productive as I used to be but i'm not absolutely certain that increasing my work load to 6 shoots a month is nessicarily going to fix things either. I met with a fan/business advisor recently and he even thought that what i really just needed to do was to better market what I've already done more than keep churning out new content all the time..
But a few random observations (or rants if you'd like to think of them as that)...
I've done several "professional" "mainstream" movies or dvds, but really not as much as a lot of you other girls, and I don't consider any of it to be my best work. All, the shoots I've done for other companies were some of the worst stuff I've done. I know how a lot of these other companies work, and yeah, they will never care as much for the quality of the product as much as the model will.
I think affiliates have disseminated too much free product and have hurt things probably more than they've helped. Plus when people image google me, all the work I've done for those other sites come up first. Again, people gettin' their Tara fix on all that, and not my site. Would controlling ALL my content really steer people there and not elsewhere? Perhaps.
Also:
I think the people who tun the torrent sites should get their asses thrown in jail or something. The wild and lawless days of the internet really need to come to an end. It was fun for a while, but now it's time for some smackdown, especially in regards to distributing stolen content. Do these guys have 2257 records? I fucking doubt it. Sure- people in the government would love to shut down the porn biz. How about shutting these guys down first? Don't go after the drug companies that make Sudafed, go after the people turning it into crystal meth in their basement..
I'm absolutely livid when I see my whole site up on torrent sites and when I confront them about it, they have the nerve to cop an attitude or try to tell me it's like free advertising - and then put up a fight in taking it down..
If you can have total control over your content, then you have a chance. If your fans are dedicated enough to you that they know that throwing your stuff up on torrent sites is tantamount to smacking you across your head with a tire iron and then taking your purse- then maybe you increase your chances too. When fans think that you must be rolling in money from your porn career and that you won't notice it- that's when it can be bad.
There's some delicate balance of presenting yourself as successful without people thinking your'e a superstar who wipes their ass with $50 bills or someone who is barely making ende meet that they wonder "look, they must be doing something wrong if they're doing so bad." I'm not sure where that balance is since I think I've given off both those kind of impressions sometimes. It's important for people to know that we're in a business, and this is for most of us, our living.
Anyway:
I think the way to the future is in the multi-talented starlets- and taking what you do to places that aren't porn. If all you can do is work for companies doing porn scenes, that's not going to go very far. If.. let's say.. you can direct, produce, design and generally have aspirations outside of (but related to) the porn industry, then you will probably do well. And what i mean by that is if your aspirations are to be a US Congresswoman, then well- yeah, those porn days will bite you in the ass. But let's say your career aspirations were to start your own custom made bondage furniture company (not saying that's mine, but it is something I thought about), then well, yeah, your porn past is an asset more than a liability.
So yeah, I don't know where this is all going. I'm a little worrisome as I'm just on the eve of buying a house (not an expensive one), and I'm a bit fearful for my own job security. I suppose if need be, I could re-enter the job field. I do have other talents I can draw upon.
For my own business, I've been shooting for the "1000 true fans" business model. Where all you need to do to survive is have 1000 true fans out there in the entire world who love your stuff enough to fork over $100 of their own money per year to help you continue doing what you do.
Wether you make that money in DVD sales, site memberships, or whatever, it translates to $100,000 a year, which I'd be happy to pull in consistently.
A lot of us are "microcelebrities", let's face it. We're popular in our own industry, but relatively unknown outside of tranny porn. Here's a good article about the 1000 true fan theory:
http://www.kk.org/thetechnium/archiv..._true_fans.php
So, with the state of the industry perhaps as they say "the cream will rise to the top" , forcing more girls to realize that they're not going to get rich off it, and fewer schmucks seeing that the "easy money" days of 2005 or so just don't work any more. That might thin the playing field a bit. And if the girls who are big stars can find other outlets? Do it. Seriously, if you can get yourself on some annoying reality tv show on Bravo and have it come out as a scandal (on the show itself) that you "did porn!" - by all means DO IT.
Hey, I would.

Re: A lot of girls are retiring...What is driving them away from the business?
ONE REASON...
TUBE/TORRENT sites.
Its that simple. As soon as performers put stuff on the net, it just gets copied and posted for everyone to download FREE of charge.
Same as the Music industry.
Until the law is changed to outlaw TUBE and Torrent sites, the porn industry will just go down and down.
Whats the point of people spending 100's on studio time etc just for it all the get posted for free access.
