You do pay considerably higher taxes overall, when considering the combination of Federal, Provincial, and sales taxes. For example, in Texas(where I live)your total income tax if you make 50k is 25%. In Canada the federal is 22% for that bracket, plus most Provinces are gonna throw an additional 10-15% on top of that. Sales taxes here 6.25%. Sales taxes in Ontario are 13%.

The point we are making is that the extra taxes taken from you are more than enough to pay for the average American's health care.

Now, most socialized countries tax even higher than Canada does. For instance, Germany taxes 42% of your income at around 52k. The total difference in taxes in income works out to be somewhere around $9,000 less in the US. For those not doing the math, that's $750 a month. That is enough for the nicest healthcare plan a guy can get in the US.
